Cloud gaming: is it worth playing without installing anything?

Cloud gaming processes the game on a remote server and streams the video to your device in real time, like a video call — you just need a screen and stable internet, without installing anything locally.

When it makes sense

• Your device doesn't meet the game's minimum requirements (e.g., playing Fortnite on a phone that's not on the compatible list)
• You want to try a game before downloading dozens of GB
• You play on several different devices (phone, TV, weak PC) and want the same experience on all of them

What you need for it to work well

• Stable internet of at least 15-20 Mbps, preferably over cable or 5GHz Wi-Fi
• Low ping to the cloud service's server — even with enough bandwidth, high latency hurts games that require quick reactions
• A compatible controller usually improves the experience quite a bit on phone screens

The limitations

Cloud gaming depends 100% on your connection — any instability instantly turns into lag or a drop in image quality, unlike a locally installed game. On mobile connections (4G/5G), data usage is also high, so it's worth keeping an eye on your plan.
